Learn how to support women going the stages of perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause on the UK's first Menopause Yoga & Wellbeing Yoga Teacher Training course. This course is led either in person or online by Petra Coveney - the founder of Menopause Yoga and author of 'Menopause Yoga - A Holistic Guide To Supporting Women On Their Menopause Journey,' published in October 2021 by Singing Dragon and available to purchase on Amazon and other bookstores.

MY is not a magic pill and does not claim to 'cure' medical conditions or 'rebalance' your hormones oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone that fluctuate and decline in the menopause. But yoga is scientifically proven to reduce stress and inflammation, which exacerbates many menopause symptoms such as anxiety, hot flushes, joint and muscle pain. Yoga may also help with sleep, digestion, fatigue, and developing posture, balance (proprioception), inner sensory awareness (interception) and muscle tone can help prevent fatal falls and fractures.

"Menopause Yoga is unique in helping women to manage their menopause symptoms and their mindset. My Approach brings western medical science and eastern wellbeing together for the first time. My Mantra is to Educate women, to feel Empowered, so that they can Embrace the menopause as an opportunity for self reflection, better health and wellbeing." (Petra Coveney). She was the first yoga teacher to become a member of the British Menopause Society for health practitioners and works alongside menopause specialist doctors, nutritionists, psychologists and complimentary therapists.

Petra formally launched Menopause Yoga in 2013. This was followed by the Menopause Yoga Teacher Training course launched in 2019. In 2020, she teamed up with Yogacampus.com the yoga education charity, to offer an online hybrid learning versions of her acclaimed course.

THE MENOPAUSE YOGA APPROACH

Her ground-breaking training combines modern western medical science and the wisdom of eastern wellbeing, such as Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine.

Her unique practice has been honed over a decade of working with women in the menopause and includes specially adapted yoga poses, breathing techniques and meditation to help people ease some of their menopause symptoms such as anxiety, overwhelm, brain fog, insomnia, fatigue, hot flushes and irritability, joint and muscle pain. Petra also teachers modified yoga for post menopause to help build balance, muscle strength and heart health to help counter the risks of osteoporosis, sarcopenia muscle loss and cardio vascular disease.

It is important to note that yoga can not replace the declining hormones oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone which is the root cause of many menopause symptoms. As a member of the BMS, Petra includes Hormone replacement Therapy in her discussions about menopause management and her courses include a talk by a menopause specialist GP, pelvic floor nurse, nutritionists and herbalists.

THE MENOPAUSE JOURNEY

The process of moving through perimenopause to post menopause can take anything from 5-15 years, so this really is a journey. We need to become attuned to the hormonal changes in our bodies, our minds and emotions. This embodied consciousness enables women to  respond to its changing needs, and adapt our yoga practice at each stage.

This empowering training is set within a positive framework that promotes menopause as an opportunity for self growth and insight.

Petra Coveney says:
